New President 2011

On the 30 June in a ceremony attended by the members of the Club and their wives the outgoing President Howard Roberts handed over the ceremonial chain of office to Steve Royce Rogers who took over the role of President of the Warminster Rotary Club for the next 12 months. Reflecting on the activities of the Club over the last year Howard Roberts commented that the year had been full and interesting with a very full social calendar and he was pleased to state that the Clubs charitable givings had been as varied and as worthwhile as always Many local charities had benefited from the Clubs efforts but the desperate plight of the poor and disadvantaged overseas had not been forgotten
Steve Royce Rogers is a well known personality in Warminster, both from his picture and medal framing business and his enthusiastic involvement in local activities Steve is keen to continue the traditional activities of Rotary while making sure that Rotary reflects the modern world He stated that Warminster Rotary Club is always keen to have a steady flow of new members bringing new ideas skills and vocations and their engagement is a key part of the sustainability of Rotary Finally, he stressed that one of the big targets for Rotary Worldwide is to finally eradicate Polio from the world as Rotary started Polio Plus in 1985 a multimillion pound initiative to immunize all the worlds children against polio In the world today pockets of polio exist in only 4 countries and Rotary are contributing to the final effort to eradicate the polio virus forever

Rotary to eradicate polio this Rotary year.

Your contribution will help Rotary raise US$200 million to match $355 million in challenge grants received from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The resulting $555 million supports immunization campaigns in developing countries where polio continues to infect and paralyze children, robbing them of their futures and compounding the hardships faced by their families.

As long as polio threatens even one child anywhere in the world, children everywhere remain at risk. The stakes are that high. By donating now, you can help Rotary achieve a polio-free world.

Rotary charity "Bikes for Africa"

Members of the Warminster Rotary Club recently picked up eighty bicycles donated by Center Parcs and bound for Africa.
THe Rotary charity "Bikes 4 Africa" will distribute the bicycles to UK prisons, where they will be refurbished by inmates, packed into containers of 300 and then shipped to the Gambia.
Once there, the bicycles will then be given to schools that will loan them to pupils that will need them the most.
It is encouraging to know that a small amount of time and effort here can help children in Africa to get to and from school quicker and easier.

Stich Blues Brothers Rock the Ath

With the help of Steve & Rich, otherwise known as The Stich Blues Brothers tribute band, Warminster Rotary Club held a charity concert in the Athenaeum on Friday evening. 160 seats were filled and Stich gave the performance of their lives. Having never appeared in the Athenaeum before they were filled with trepidation but after getting over their pre show nerves they let rip with all the Blues Brothers’ classic songs. An added bonus was that they also sang classic hits from Madness, The Specials and Bad Manners. They had the audience rocking in their seats and in the aisles.
The proceeds of this event are going to the Salisbury District Hospital Stars Appeal, Caring 4 Kids, Rotary International Polio Plus Campaign and other Rotary Charities. Rotarian Steve Royce-Rogers, who organised the event, said that he was delighted with the success of the evening.

A full house at the Farmers Hotel function room on Thursday 26 Nov 09 were very well entertained by the pupils aged 11 to 18 from Warminster School and King down School at the annual Rotary Youth Speaks event. Three teams, two fromWarminster School and one from Kingdown entered the Intermediate competition for pupils aged 11-13 and four teams, two from each school aged 14-17 entered the senior event. Some of the topics chosen were Laughter.Phobias,Moderation and Time. The winning Intermediate team was Kingdown with Jake Coward, Ellen Roberts and Evie Dean and their subject was Phobias. This was well delivered and very amusing. The Seniors winners were Warminster with Tom Newton, Blair Collins-Thomas and Adam Parrish and the subject of Time had the audience in fits of laughter. The Chairman of the judges David Johnson who was supported by Olive Stephens and Janet Wood summed up at the end of the evening and said that he was very impressed by the high standard of the teams and gave a few pointers which would help the teams going on to the next stage of the competition. He then presented certificates to every competitor. The Rotary President Jim Brammer then presented the trophies to the winning teams and a voucher for £10 to each member. Steve Stephens the organiser of the event said that the standard this year was the best he had seen. The event was followed by a buffet supper.

Tree of Light
Posted on: Friday - Nov 06, 2009
About the Tree of Light

At Christmas time the Warminster Rotary Club have a Tree of Light situated outside of The Chapel of St Lawrence. The tree is covered in a host of white lights each one dedicated to the memory of a loved one.
The importance of the tree is the comfort it gives to families and individuals throughout the area. Everyone has been affected at some time in their lives by the loss of a relative or friend, visiting graves is not always practical and to be able to remember someone special at Christmas is important.
Individuals are invited to sponsor a Light in memory of a loved one and the money raised benefits a number of local charities.
Rotarian's will be outside the Chapel from Saturday 12th - Sat 19th December. (but not Sunday)

There is also an Online Memorial which all names will be dispayed on ! ( click the "Tree of Light " menu button above )

First lady member of Warminster Rotary Club
Posted on: Thursday - Oct 22, 2009

The Rotary Club of Warminster gained its first lady member last Thursday at an induction meeting held at The Stable Room in The White Hart, George Street, which is the clubs regular venue. The induction of Mrs Helen Gerrard was chaired by President Jim Brammer, who warmly welcomed her to the club. Helen, who has two grown up sons, has lived in Warminster for many years. She has spent 15 years teaching at The Kingdown School, and for the last 5 years has been teaching sick children at Salisbury Hospital. Helen said that she was delighted to join Warminster Rotary and felt that her fellow members were like a family, with a strong community spirit. She had also commissioned a new way of wearing the Rotary logo - As earings. We believe that this could be a first throughout the Rotary community.
